The flowers were submerged in salt water, frozen in ice, thawed, and finally smothered in heavy paint. In the images, the mums transition from full and luscious to a state of decay and dissolution – all the while maintaining their vibrance. I am interested in the paradox of water. It is both a lifegiving force and poisonous destroyer, a gentle trickle and a tidal wave. Its solid form, ice, is preservative, but also destructive. The state of the flower is contingent on its […] - [Heirblooms](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/heirblooms/): Artist’s Statement I inherited a fascination with natural formations from my grandmothers. My lolas, both of whom are in their 90s, have always been fixated on flowers — one a devoted gardener, the other a skilled painter. Lola B patiently nurtured buds into existence in her greenhouse and gardens. Lola C consistently centered florals in her paintings, joyfully elevating humble blossoms on to enormous canvases. Heirblooms is my attempt to engage with this transgenerational floral fixation on my own terms. In this series of photographs, I take fresh orchids, decaying flowers, and delicate seashells and drench them in vibrant chromatic, […] - [Unearthed: Dissolution Print Catalog](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/unearthed-dissolution-print-catalog-2/): Hello, dear visitor 💖 Thanks for your interest! Dissolution is a minor body of work I photographed over the course of 2 years. In this series, I photographed the same set of chrysanthemums in various states of dissolution. They were submerged in salt water, frozen in ice, thawed, and finally smothered in heavy paint. In the images, water plays the role both of benign lifegiver and poisonous destroyer. The mums are permanently changed. The photographs are part of a group exhibition entitled Unearthed, with artist Johann Guasch. The works from the exhibition are displayed on this page. Each print is […] - [Heirblooms Print Catalog](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/heirblooms-print-catalog-2/): Hello, dear visitor 💖 Thanks for your interest! Heirblooms is a body of work I have been photographing for the past two years. I inherited a love for flowers and natural forms from my grandmothers (one a painter, the other an avid gardener), both of whom are in their 90s. This work is my tribute to them, and an exploration of what it means to render those forms photographically. Distortion, decay & lineage are themes I explore in these images. The works from the exhibition are displayed on this page. Each print is available in two sizes – 40×60 cm […] - [Unearthed: Dissolution Print Catalog](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/unearthed-dissolution-print-catalog/): Hello, dear visitor 💖 Thanks for your interest! All these images and the collections they are part of are available to use for free on Canva. The collection names are listed as captions on the images in this gallery, you can search for them as keywords in the Elements tab on Canva in order to see more. You can also search “+artist:”Sandra Dans” under the Elements tab in the app to see the collections I have made for Canva in their entirety. - [Restoration](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/restoration/): I have been working with photographic prints since 2014, and started applying that experience to restoration in 2018 – taking time-ravaged prints, scanning them in, and repairing their damage digitally. I am able to digitize prints, film negatives, slide film (I’ve even scanned stereoscopic slides from the 80s!), even blown-up oversize photographs – and assess them for restoration. I occasionally broadcast my restoration sessions via Facebook Live. My main objective with restoration is to return the image to its “negative” state, or what it might have looked like as a negative, but I also do enhancements, as demonstrated through the […] - [Food and Beverage](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/food/): I made the pivot in the pandemic from photographing weddings to photographing food and products for small businesses. All these images done in house, on tabletop setups. We’ve been working on upping our styling and set design game! - [Double Vision 19](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/album-scattered-c/): When traveling, I want my work to have my fingerprint on it. This has saved me much time (since I am led to avoid tourist traps) and to be honest, much money – it’s led me down weirder streets, made me ask harder questions, pressed me to come up with more interesting ways to frame my travel experiences. This is what makes double exposures so attractive to me. It’s not the act of photographing the thing that is central, it’s its juxtaposition with something else. The contrast is the point; the pairing of the images, my artistic action – my […] - [Double Vision 17](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/album-scattered-b/): When traveling, I want my work to have my fingerprint on it. We were used to shooting together remotely; we work together annually on an ongoing series called Synchrocity where we schedule and take photographs in tandem across the world. 2020 is different – this year, we were connected by something more global, more catastrophic. Self-quarantining in our own homes for a shared duration, we found we were having a lot of the same internal experiences. Different cities, same anxieties, same restlessness. We decided on staged self-portraits […] - [Off Kilter Studio](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/beautiful-shots-from-above/): Off Kilter Studio was started in 2018, with a focus on couples planning non-traditional events, or who are interested in non-traditional coverage. We love to work with people who enthusiastically embrace their weird and their wild, who are unencumbered by the burden of glamour, who relish not giving a shit. We’re also interested in celebrating relationships that break norms, defy conventions, flout tradition, and that worry your grandmother (unless your grandma is super cool). Off Kilter Studio is an option for couples that are a little more offbeat and kooky, whose weddings might look a bit different, or whose relationships […] - [About](https://portfolio.sandradans.com/about-me/): My name is Sandra Dans, and I’m a professional photographer based in Manila. I’ve worked professionally since 2010, mostly as a wedding photographer but also in other commercial pursuits such as stock photography. I am an assistant professor at the UP College of Fine Arts. I graduated with a BFA in Visual Communication from UP Diliman, and an MFA in Photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design. Alongside my commercial practice, I also work as an independent digital photo restorer. I live in (and bike around) Metro Manila with my husband. If you’d like to see what I’m […] [comment]: # (Generated by Hostinger Tools Plugin)
